CHANEL FW 23/24 HAUTE COUTURE
BY Rosie Dalton

The CHANEL Fall-Winter 2023/24 Haute Couture collection by Virginie Viard was an ode to La Parisienne. Set on the banks of the Seine, this delicate dance of contrasts effortlessly fused femininity and masculinity—as only CHANEL does best.

Tweed suiting was buttoned-up alongside billowing proportions of the finest silk chiffon. And dropped waist dresses with full skirts lent a romantic touch, just as the flowers flowing free from wicker baskets were mirrored by the delicately blooming embroidery.

Sheer stockings and two-tone Mary Janes were de rigueur in the accessory department, alongside straw boaters, and oversized bows.

While the subtle nod at corsetry felt fittingly full circle—given that it was Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel who first helped free women from the bonds of the corset.

‘Playing with opposites and contrasts, with nonchalance and elegance, is like standing on a line between strength and delicacy, which, at CHANEL, is what we call allure,’ explained Virginie Viard of her vision for the collection.

‘Handing down emotions, bringing the most unlikely elements together, doing things your own way, just dreaming.’

Without a doubt, the Fall-Winter 2023/24 Haute Couture CHANEL collection had us dreaming—of mornings at the flower market and of thumbing through street side bookstalls, of evening strolls along the Seine and of Paris, in all the effortless beauty she embodies.
